NZBS Blood Donor Week 2025

Wed Aug. 20th 2025

Celebrating World Blood Donor Week: 9–13 June an annual
reminder of the lifesaving impact of voluntary blood donation
and a time to recognize and thank the many donors across
New Zealand who give selflessly.

As part of the celebrations, New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) opened its doors to offer special behind-thescenes tours at its Auckland and Christchurch facilities. Our members were able to explore the inner workings of blood processing and storage, and witness firsthand the incredible care and precision that go into every donation. These tours provided a powerful insight into the journey of blood—from donor to patient—and reinforced the vital role blood and plasma donation has. In Hamilton, Amy from the Office Team and David, one of our Board Members, visited the NZBS tent at Field Days—one of New Zealand’s biggest agricultural events. They had the chance to chat with NZBS staff, learn more about the current needs for donors in rural communities, and even got their blood typed on the spot—an educational and interactive experience that highlights just how easy and impactful it is to get involved. World Blood Donor Week is more than just a celebration—it’s a call to action. The demand for blood never stops, and new donors are always needed. If you’ve ever considered donating, now is the perfect time to take that first step. Thank you to all who participated, and most importantly, to all the blood donors who continue to make a difference—your generosity saves lives.
