Advancements in PID Research and Treatment
Celebrating Immunology Awareness Month 2025
We are pleased to invite you to a series of informative talks addressing Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID) and the clinical benefits of genetic testing. Esteemed experts in the field of immunology, both international and local, will present on the latest developments, research findings, and the advantages these advancements offer to PID patients. This seminar is intended for medical professionals, scientists, and fifth-year medical students who are interested in the latest advancements in immunology.
IDFNZ is honored to feature Professor Neil Romberg from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as our keynote speaker for this event.
Professor Romberg is a respected clinical immunologist and clinician-scientist affiliated with the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the CHOP Research Institute.
His areas of expertise encompass a wide range of PID topics, which include:
- Germinal center development and regulation
- The role of pioneer transcription factors in hematopoiesis
- Epigenetic and somatic mechanisms of gene silencing in lymphocytes
- The role of T regulatory cells in B cell tolerance - Autoantibody production
- The contributions of novel genes and pathways to immunity
- The causes and consequences of dysbiosis
Professor Romberg has made significant contributions to the field, including the first report of de novo gain-of-function variants in NLRC4 leading to enterocolitis and autoinflammation. Additionally, he has identified mutations in the transcription factor PU.1 that result in a novel form of agammaglobulinemia, alongside numerous publications related to Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, and B cell tolerance.
