Understanding the Immune system
Dr Cecilia Verryt's engaging presentation introduces basic concepts of immunology and explains how the immune system functions as a security system for the body.
Detailing the different components, including the innate and adaptive immune systems.
The innate immune system offers a fast, non-specific first line of defense. In contrast, the adaptive immune system provides a slower but more targeted response with memory, utilizing T-cells and B-cells. Dr Verryt also explains the function of the various immune cells and organs, such as the skin, lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, and thymus, in maintaining overall immune health and protecting the body from harmful invaders.
