The Foundation offers various means of Emotional support that can make a real difference to patients and families.

Support staff are available to meet with families in person, at home or at hospital clinics as requested. Contact can also be by telephone if preferred.

Patient members should contact the support office via telephone ( free phone 0508 300600) or email (support@idfnz.org.nz) to request an appointment. The support staff will respond to confirm a suitable time.

We also offer contact with other patients and families ; this might be in a group situation such as the regular patient events we offer around the country, or on a one to one basis as in family matching where we try to connect patients/ families facing similar conditions or circumstances. When dealing with rare medical conditions these opportunities to share questions and experiences can make a huge difference to how a family can cope with a new diagnosis.
