ASCIA Conference 2024

The ASCIA 2024 Conference was held from the 3rd to the 6th of September 2024 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

With over 800 delegates attending this was a massive event. IDFNZ was invited to exhibit as a patient group supporting New Zealand PID patients. We were provided with a free stand and the opportunity to attend the medical talks and to connect with the Australia/NZ immunology medical specialist Community

Judith Dickson (Vice Chairman) helped with setting up and manning the IDFNZ exhibition booth. Our booth was well positioned, and we connected with clinicians from all over the world, as well as our local immunology specialists. We were able to add more medical professionals to our mailing list and distribute our new brochures and books.

Other Highlights from the ASCIA 2024 Conference included:

• Latest information on Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI).
• Talks about the latest research and issues in allergy and clinical immunology, presented by more than 70 local and international speakers.
• 132 posters - abstracts will be published online in the Internal Medicine Journal.
• The 2nd annual ASCIA Immunodeficiency Update for Nurses.

• A Review on SCID newborn testing in New Zealand and Australia.

IDFNZ supported the ‘Newborn Screening for Inborn Errors of Immunity Fireside Chat’ session by sponsoring Christchurch member Tanya Pryde, to speak alongside Dr Shannon Brothers, sharing the New Zealand experience of introducing SCID testing. Tanya’s daughter Stella was the first New Zealand baby to be diagnosed under newborn screening. Tanya shares her thoughts on the ASCIA conference separately here.
