New Zealand is currently experiencing a measles epidemic. While this epidemic started in Auckland, it has spread to other regions of the country.
Advice to all PID bone marrow / immune deficient patients and Liver transplant patients is: Parents should be alert to the symptoms of measles and contact their GP / clinical specialist team should they suspect exposure. Contact your General Practitioner or Immunology nurse specialist if you have any concerns.
Attached is a letter from the liver transplant nurse specialists explaining the situation for liver transplant children who are considered to be at high risk. What to look out for, how to minimise the risk to your child and how to get in touch with the liver team if you have concerns.
