McKenzie is a very special little boy. At just three months old he was sent to the hospital for testing as he was jaundiced. After arriving at the hospital for further tests, he endured blood tests and was referred to Starship for a liver biopsy. The results of the biopsy confirmed his diagnosis: Mckenzie had Alagille Syndrome. This meant that his heart and kidneys didn't function as well as they should and his liver was damaged.
Luckily at the beginning of 2016 Mckenzie was lucky enough to receive the news that a liver donor had become available. He pulled through the almost 12 hour surgery and received a new liver. With this live saving liver donation and the support of the staff at Starship and Kids Foundation, McKenzie has an even better chance of living his life to the fullest.
